BACKGROUND
Every prospective barrister in England and Wales must join one of the four Inns of Court. The Inns provide scholarships, educational and collegiate opportunities as well as continuing professional development. Located between Embankment and Fleet Street, Inner Temple’s renowned grounds include the famous Temple Church dating back to 1185. The Inner Temple has long been committed to social responsibility and political engagement. The first female barrister was called to the Bar by Inner Temple as well as the first female judge appointed to the Commercial Court, Court of Appeal and International Court of Justice. Numerous Lords Chancellors, including Rt Hon Jack Straw MP, and Lords Justice call Inner Temple their Inn of Court. In addition, former members have included international leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi.
CLOSING DATE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
Across all four Inns, the closing date for scholarship applications for the 2010-2011 Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) is 6th November 2009.
